New anatomy centre will replace Child Development Centre - Chris Said

Friday, 10 August 2018, 10:39 Last update: about 7 years ago

The Child Development Centre will be replaced by the new anatomy centre of Barts Medical School for the sake of foreign interests, ‘all while our children suffer’, MP Chris Said has said on social media.

Said highlighted that while Barts was scheduled to build all their facilities, the medical school will be taking a centre which provides all the specialised medical services Gozitan children require.

“They have ended up with nothing so foreigners could make profits off of it,” he said.

The Child Development Centre, he explained, was constructed under the previous PN government 6 years ago through the Eco-Gozo project, which he said cost 1.5 million.

“This is how Gozitans and their children are being treated!

“It is a shame that even Gozitan government MPs, who are supposed to represent the Gozitan people, are happy with all of this,” he continued.

On Thursday, impressions of the development had been released by Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, the Queen Mary University of London, which is scheduled to be completed in September.

Barts Medical School forms part of the concession involving the management of three state hospitals that was given to Vitals Global Healthcare, which was sold to Steward Healthcare Malta 21 months into their operations.

On 5 August, Sources explained that Barts Medical School, which infamously suffered from a number of delays under VGH's stewardship, appears to be making significant strides, with the first floor now completed and a projected completion date of March 2019.
