Tallinja Bike: Government unveils pedelec rental scheme in Valletta

Monday, 13 August 2018, 10:22 Last update: about 7 years ago

People will now be able to rent pedelecs in Valletta to travel within the capital city and its surrounding localities, Transport Minister Ian Borg announced today.

Three bays, which will house 50 pedelecs, will be made available. One near the bus terminus at the Triton fountain, a second by the bottom of the Upper Barrakka lift, and a third outside Fort St Elmo.

A bay near Marsamxett Habour and another in the centre of the city will be installed in the future.

Only tallinja card holders will be able to use the service.

Konrad Pule, the general manager of Malta Public Transport, explained that service would be currently limited to Valletta and that the operator had no plans to extend it to other localities at the present moment, while Borg highlighted that there is currently a private operator offering a similar service across the island.

“The goal is to create better connectivity between the different modes of transport,” Pule said.
