Rescue personnel have found the body of a diver who went missing on Monday.

The body was found in the water off Bahar ic-Caghaq, during the second day of the search.

Neil Zammit, 20, went missing after he separated from his diving colleague on Monday evening.

The search started immediately after the police and AFM were alerted and resumed at dawn on Tuesday.

An Armed Forces of Malta helicopter joined in the search. Some of Zammit's friends were also giving a helping hand.

Police said that two divers were on site behind the Splash and Fun complex but only one of them made it to shore.

The alarm was raised with the police at around 8.30pm by the other diver, a 38-year-old man.

Earlier this morning, the divers assisting in the search, including those which form part of the AFM, suspended their search because a lerge fish was spotted in the area by AFM officers on boatrd the helicopter.

A spokesperson for the AFM said that the large fish was not identified as a shark, but for safety reasons the divers were requested to board the AFM vessel.

The search resumed in the afternoon, leading to the grim discovery of Zammit's body.

The police issued a statement this evening stating that a body was found at 4.15pm near White Rocks. The body was then brought in at the Haywharf base by AFM members. The police said that the body belongs to an unidentified man, and said that investigations were underway.
