President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca this morning laid wreaths at the foot of the Great Siege Monument in Valletta.
Malta today celebrates Victory Day, which commemorates Malta’s victory against the Turks in the Great Siege of 1565 and the victory of the Allied Forces against the Axis Forces in World War II.
The Great Siege Monument in Valletta, also known as the Monument to the Fallen of the Great Siege, consists of three bronze figures symbolizing Faith, Fortitude, and Civilization, standing on top of a granite base.
The monument is the work of the sculptor Antonio Sciortino, and it was inaugurated on 8 May 1927.
