Protecting minors from harmful audio-visual content

Francis Zammit Dimech Thursday, 4 October 2018, 10:52 Last update: about 7 years ago

In his vlog, MEP Francis Zammit Dimech speaks of changes made to EU media law to protect minors from harmful audio-visual content. Strict rules on advertising in children’s programmes including reducing exposure to publicity for unhealthy food and beverages have also been introduced.

Provisions have also been made to protect European artists. At least 30% of content available both on TV and video on demand needs to be European work. Zammit Dimech said that this is crucial to invest more in European artists and ensure more content is generated for users to enjoy. Other important aspects of the new law include the protection against incitement to violence, hatred and discrimination, advertising limit and the right to information to those receiving services.
