Referee: Malcolm Spiteri

Scorer: Johan Castano 54'

A Johann Castano header nine minutes into the second half proved to be enough for Zejtun to register their first win of the season against bottom of the table side San Gwann.

Without setting any houses on fire, Zejtun were still good enough to beat a sorry San Gwann, a side still in search of the first point this season. Zejtun's problems are from over, but at least this first victory could be a much needed morale boost for the remaining matches.

San Gwann need to do more, much more if they wish to avoid the big drop at the end of the season. They were never in the game yesterday, apart from some good moments at the start of the game, and a late forcing that was however too little too late for them to save the game.

Zejtun's match winner came on 54 minutes when Johann Castano headed home from close range a Giordemaina cross from the right.

Zebbug R-Naxxar L           1-1

Żebbuġ R: J. Borg, R. Vella, C. Brincat, S. Schembri, D. Fava, A. Curmi, H. Vella, S. Buhagiar, R. Thiago Rocha, C. Ze Lucas, R. Micallef.

Naxxar L: S. Micallef, G. Cassar, R. Mercieca, M. Fenech, D. Belhadj, M. Mifsud, J. Ellul, M. Belhadj, J. Debono, S. Meilak, A. Azzopardi.

Referee: Slobodan Petrovic

Two headers, one in each half decided this tightly contested match between Zebbug Rangers and Naxxar Lions. Both teams have a solid squad and can aim for the high places but their stuttering start shows another reality, very far from promotion ambitions.

Zebbug were sensing their second victory of the season, but Naxxar's last gasp equaliser foiled their plans. Naxxar saved the match and earned a point thanks to a 93 rd minute header scored by Mohamed Belhadj, as Steve D'Amato's side, relegated from the Premier category at the end of last season, is still struggling and is still in search of the first victory.

Zebbug had taken a deserved first half lead when Clive Brincat headed home following a freekick, with five minutes to go for the break.
