As we anticipated last week, we look forward to a season of high level football. This is what was  offered during th first interesting  games of the championships. Level is going up and we should have an interesting season ahead. Teams are well prepared and several well established players  that played for Malta in the past are giving a great show.

In the MAPFRE/MSV Life Premier Masters League, champions MARSA WHITE STARS registered an easy win against WARDIJA 11-2. This was their second win over Wardija after their success in the PRE SEASON T'MENT. Again the classic play of such players, Gilbert Scerri, Jason Galea, and  Alexander Ribic made all the difference.

Another team playing high class football is DINGLI DESANA and should be interesting  to  watch the games against Marsa during competition  Last season they kept chasing each other till  the last games, and the same might happen this season. They possess a  good number of experienced players and the introduction lately of Gareth Sciberras instilled more confidence in the team

MELITA managed to beat VALLETTA in  a low scoring game 4-2.  MELITA made some new touches, but still it seems they depend too much on the experience of Brian Said, Michael Galea and goalkeeper Sean Sullivan. To be fair, coach Etienne Sammut had to reshuffle his team as he had some regular players missing, amongst them Gilbert Agius.

In the CISK DIVISION ONE MASTERS LEAGUE, ZURRIEQ WOLVES again impressed in beating newcomers NAXXAR 7-4.  This is a team to watch, a team that play collective football. Alistair Camilleri is the star player of the team.  He scored four and he was  always dangerous. Naxxar were still there until the break (4-4), but then Zurrieq were superior.

MOSTA passed a lot of anxious moments when they just beat JIVAL 8-7.  Mosta had a good lead of  7-4 at the end of the first half, but then Jival came back, they got  level, but Mosta just managed to score the victory goal in the last two minutes. This was unfortunate for JIVAL who deserved a draw.
