The government today announced that the price of 23 medicinal products, including antibiotics and contraceptives, is to be reduced.

Speaking at the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta, Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Protection and Valletta 2018 Deo Debattista announced decreases on medicines for ailments such as fibromyalgia and migranes. The selected medicines that will see a cut in price include contraceprives, mental health medicine, stomach medicine and antibiotics.

The Parliamentary Secretary explained that their goal “is not for patients to save money, but to make the care they need more accessible”.

“Our goal is to keep reducing the price of medicines.”

Chairperson of the Malta Medicines Authority Prof. Anthony Serracino Inglott insisted that there is “no point having quality medicine if it is not accessible”.

Chairperson for the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority Ing. Helga Pizzuto added that this measure was necessary to further achieve an equitable society.
