Saturday, 3 November 2018, 14:24 Last update: about 7 years ago

“Budget 2019 clearly shows the Labour Government’s vision for Malta and where it is heading.” MEP Miriam Dalli said who described the Government as having put forward budgets to strengthen the country’s economy.

The Labour MEP said that this budget was helping out those who are most in need. While addressing an event at the Labour Party Club in Naxxar, Miriam Dalli said that in Malta we have groups in our society who progressed economically but not everyone has progressed with the same success. This is the reason behind this budget’s social measures to help out families and vulnerable people.

Amongst the most social measures, Miriam Dalli identified the increase in pensions, more allowances for people with disabilities, increase in children’s allowance for parents with the minimum wage and a system whereby those over forty years will be able to become homeowners.

“The measure closest to my heart, addressing families and youths, is the removal of SEC and MATSEC examination fees. This measure is giving an opportunity to all students to progress, irrespective of whether the parents can afford to pay or not,” emphasised Dalli.

“Education was always central in the Labour Government’s work and this measure puts into practice the values which as Labour Party we have always stood for – that of having a just society and that everyone is given an opportunity to succeed, added Dr Dalli.

In light of this, Dr Dalli highlighted the need to ascertain that the economy remains steady and, for this reason we need to keep working on our vision for Malta. “Malta needs to be a leader and remain at the forefront of entering new economic niches before other countries,” emphasised Miriam Dalli.

This is why Malta must keep on looking at new economic niches and sustaining these industries such as the technology industry, including Blockchain, Artifical Intelligence, Internet of Things and Distributed Ledger Technology, said Miriam Dalli.

This is the way forward as Malta is the first Member State in the European Union that is regulating sectors like Crypto and Blockchain,” said Miriam Dalli.

“At the same time we have to look at new industries, especially green technology to examine possibilities of increasing the production of green technology and as a result we keep on creating wealth and increase employment opportunities of good quality,” Dalli stated further.

During this event, MEP Miriam Dalli discussed with those present several issues, including Brexit and the relations between Malta and the UK after Brexit, quality of life in Naxxar, environment and youths.
