A 26-year-old man detained at the Corradino Correctional Facility was found unconscious in his cell during routine patrol earlier today.

He was given first aid by correctional officers and was taken to hospital where he was certified dead shortly afterward, the government said in a statement.

Police investigations are ongoing, as is a magisterial inquiry and internal investigations.
