Sirens kept matching on yesterday defeating Gudja United 3-0 in a top of the table clash. Sirens fully deserved the victory as they dominated for long stretches especially in the first fourty five minutes.

The win leaves Sirens on top of the table with a three-point lead over second placed Santa Lucia who on Saturday scraped to their fourth successive draw.

Led by a brilliant Mattia Del Negro in midfield and with Nwoba and Adeshina menacing up front, Sirens were by far the better team and after taking a frist half lead, they settled the issue with two other goals in the second period.

John Nwoba scored the opening goal on fourteen minutes with a low drive following a move started by Del Negro, with the same Del Negro scoring the second goal on 64 miniutes with a precise shot from ther edge of the area.

Morgon Filho sealed the issue from the penalty spot fifteen minutes from time.

Vittoriosa S-Naxxar L   0-1

Vittoriosa S: C. Cassar, I. Abela, R. Previ, K. Degiorgio (A. Cilia Mumford), G. Sultana, J. Ogunnupe, J. Briffa, P. Papadakis, N. Ojuola, L. Casha (J.C. Cesare), T. Abela Wilson (J. Pace).

Naxxar L: O. Borg, M. Fenech, M. Mifsud, D. Bonnici (R. Mercieca), R. Cassar, J. Ellul, C. Bugeja, A. Buhagiar, S. Nanapere (J. Debono), B. Essel, S. Meilak.

Referee: Alex Johnson

Scorer: Duane Bonnici 21’

A great goal scored by Duane Bonnici half way through the first half was enough for Naxxar to beat Vittoriosa and return to winning ways.

Naxxar were the better in the first half, but Vittoriosa came back strongly in the second half and a draw would have been a fairer result. Vittoriosa pushed for the equaliser after the break and were rather unlucky, hitting the post twice, through substitute Jamie Pace on 55 minutes and then through Luca Casha on 77 minutes.

Naxxar’s goal came from a great personal effort from Duane Bonnici who beat Briffa on the run before firing home for a great goal. Naxxar finished the match with ten men when their captain Angus Buhagiar receieved a second booking in stoppage.

Zebbug R-Mqabba          0-0

Żebbuġ R: J. Borg, D. Fava, S. Schembri, R. Vella, D. Pace, S. Buhagiar, T. Dos Santos Rodrigo, C. Brincat, R. Micallef, J. Farrugia (M. Camilleri 81’), K. Camilleri (D. Caruana 85’).

Mqabba: J. Debono, L. Farrugia, R. Da Silva Gomes, G. Micallef, B. Grech (M. Camilleri 85’), W. Borg, C. Vella, D. Azzopardi, F. Gusman, M. Kayumba, L. Suma.

Referee: Ivan Mrkalj

Mqabba and Zebbug both missed a penalty in the second half as both sides failed to score in a low profile match. Both teams are passing through a bad spell with Zebbug dfeeated in their last two outings, and Mqabba going into this match after four consecutive defeats.

In the first half Mqabba had more of the ball and had te better chances with Zebbug on the defensive. In the second half the match was more balanced with Zebbug at least having some attempts at goal.

Their best chances came from the penalty spot, but Rafael Da Silva Gomes for Mqabba and Ryan Micallef for Zebbug missed from the penalty spot, with both sides settling for a point.
