Yet another drug find - 3.5kg of cannabis found on passenger arriving from Rome

Following two drug busts earlier this week - 5,020kgs of cannabis resin and 48 kgs of cocaine hidden in two separate containers at the Freeport - this morning the Customs Department has achieved another success, intercepting 3.5kgs of cannabis destined to the domestic market.

Customs officials, screening passengers arriving from various flights, targetted some passengers arriving from Ciampino, Rome. One of the screened luggages through the xray was flagged as suspicious and was subsequently searched. Three bags of a grass like substance, wieghing 3.5kgs, were elevated from said luggage. Preliminary narcotics fields test resulted positive to Cannabis.

The Police Anti Drug squad was informed and the Nigerian passenger was placed under arrest. Inspector Frank Tabone is leading the investigation, while the duty Magistrate was duly informed. The Nigerian national is expected to be arraigned in Court in the coming ours.

This year the Customs Department and the Police have had a historic year in their fight against drugs, wiping out more than 17 tonnes of narcotics from the streets.
