Labour MEP Alfred Sant said this afternoon that he believes there are political reasons behind the current spate of personal attacks against Opposition Leader Adrian Delia.

“It is disgusting,” he said on Facebook, “that the Opposition Leader’s private and familial matters are being out up for public scrutiny.”

Sant was himself the victim of similar personal attacks when he was Opposition Leader.

Sant said whoever is abusing of this private matter is being indecent, also because the matter is before the courts. It is clear that the people behind the personal attacks on Delia are not concerned with justice, but are taking this opportunity for political retribution, which he described as “dirty and personal”.

Sant did not mention any names, but he was clearly referring to Nationalist exponents who have been active on social media to attack their own leader after judicial documents were leaked to parts of the media.
