Sunday, 30 December 2018, 15:26 Last update: about 7 years ago

69 migrants were yesterday rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta and brought to Haywharf.

The migrants were picked up by AFM Patrol Vessel P51 from a wooden boat in distress, some 117 NM South-West of Malta.

The AFM did not give any details about the nationalities or ages of the migrants.

In a statement, the UNHCR commended the AFM for rescuing the migrants but said it remained concerned for the refugees and migrants rescued by the Sea-Watch 3 and Sea Eye. “We call for solidarity and their timely disembarkation at a nearby safe port,” the organization said.
