Christian Micallef (second from right) was sworn in as Mayor of Valletta on Monday evening, following the resignation of Alexiei Dingli.

Vince Fabri (left) was elected Vice Mayor during the same ceremony.

Micallef, a sports journalist and TV presenter, said he was accepting his new role with great humility and with a sense of duty, adding that he will be a Mayor for all Valletta residents, irrespective of political colour.

He thanked his predecessor for the work he carried out over the last ten years, which including Valletta’s application for European Capital of Culture.

Micallef said that, while the current legislature was almost at its end, he would work with all councillors for the benefit of the residents of the capital city.
