Sliema Wanderers and Floriana were the protagonists in the Old Firm Derby in the second match of the night played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

The match was dominated by Floriana especially in the first forty-five minutes with Sliema coming more into the picture in the second half. But after taking the lead midway through the first half Sliema drew level eighteen minutes from the end.

Sliema had Nortey Ashong missing through suspension with Stefan Cassar given a starting berth instead of Peter Xuereb.  Floriana gave the debut to Brandon Paiber with coach Guido Ugolotti sticking to the same starting formation.

In the first round match Sliema prevailed by beating Floriana by a solitary goal.

Floriana did all the early running and held the upper hand during the first period. On 12 minutes Paiber found Viera whose back heel went just wide. Nine minutes later Floriana broke the deadlock. Oyama was the supplier with Lucas Viera Da Silva heading home.

Sliema failed to mount a proper reaction and it was only in the 42nd minute that they went near for the first time. Stefan Cassar made his way on the left flank only for this diagonal shot to be tipped over the bar by Akpan.

On resumption Sliema had a chance which fell in Marzouk's path but he blasted over the bar when well placed. On 53 minutes a De Assis cross shot was saved with some difficulty by Akpan.

On 65 minutes Floriana went near once again when Oyama passed a perfect ball towards Lucas Vieira Da Silva who tried to slide the ball but just missed the target.

Sliema drew level in the 72nd minute when Michele Sansone sent a low cross in the area with substitute Frank Temile stretching and placing the ball in the corner of the net.

Floriana 's reaction to the equalizer was an immediate one and in the 75th minute a Galvao Da Silva header from beneath the post was blocked by a point blank save by Galea.

The match was now becoming more entertaining with the Wanderers responding through a shot from the edge of the area by Jefferson De Assis which sailed just over the bar.

Sliema lost Claudio Pani for a second bookable offence seven minutes from the end with Floriana now increasing their pressure in search of the killer blow.

And on 85 minutes trouble broke near the Floriana bench with tussles ensuing and when calm was restored President Ricardo Gauci was sent off.

In added time the Greens had a Daniel Agius acute shot which was blocked by Galea and though holding the upper hand till the final whistle they failed to find the winning goal.
