The first round of the National League ended on Sunday with a festival of goals as Qormi Daikin consolidated their top position with a 7-2 victory over Rabat while Floriana Young Stars slipped into second place with a 7-0 drubbing of White Hart.

At half time, the game was not going in the direction Qormi were hoping it would go. Stuck on a 1-1 score line Qormi were finding in difficult to find a way past a very tight Rabat defence. An early penalty in the second half quickly changed matters as Qormi found their rhythm and scored almost at will. Scorers on the day for Qormi were Kurt Grixti, Kyle Micallef (2), Steve Portelli, Luke Bajada and Captain Steve Tanti celebrated his birthday with a brace. For Rabat James Azzopardi and Jonathan Pace got the goals. Umpires of the game were Glen Bonello and Nathan Galea.

The second game of the day did not have much of a story as Floriana Young Stars completely dominated White Hart from start to finish and ran out easy winners. A 3-0 half time lead was extended by a further four goals in the second half for a final score of 7-0. Scorers for Young Stars were Luke Borg Costanzi and Justin Farrugia who got two each while David Evans, Mark Camilleri and Jamie Mifsud got the other three. Umpires were Shawn Mifsud and Keith Calleja.

Standings at end of the First Round: Qormi Daikin 7 pts, Floriana Young Stars 6 pts, Sliema Hs. 5 pts, Rabat 2 pts, White Hart 0 pts.

There will be no National League matches this weekend and the Competition will resume on Sunday 10th February with the clash between Qormi Daikin and Sliema Hs. In the second match, White Hart will be hoping to pick up their first points and goals of the season when they face Rabat.
