San Gwann: M. Mestrovic, J. Azzopardi, J. Grech, R. Zammit, A. Cachia, A. Borg, C. Gauci, K. Gatt (N. Abouhaisa 46’), J. Tanti, N. Melo Ferreira (J.P. Attard 71’), R. De Oliveira (J. Bowman 61’).

Referee: Andrea Sciriha

Scorers: Renan Abner De Oliveira 12’, 29’, 44’.

San Gwann striker Renan Abner de Oliveira scored a hat trick in the first half yesterday as San Gwann easily disposed of Marsa in a bottom of the table clash. The win lifts San Gwann who have now catched up with Mqabba, who however have played a game less.

Marsa are in a pathetic state and things did not improve much after their humiliating 10-2 defeat against Sirens. San Gwann were in a class of their own and should have even obtained a larger victory had they taken all their chances especially in the first half.

Striker Renan Abner De Oliveira was San Gwann’s hero scoring a hat trick and also hitting the base of the upright. In the second half San Gwann controlled with relative ease to cruise through to an easy victory.

Zejtun C-Santa Lucia       1-0

Santa Lucia: R. Caruana, M. Caruana, J. Usaga Mendoza (K. Ante Rosero 68’), P. Lapira (N. Micallef 68’), L. Mosquera Segura (M. Guillari 57’), J. Suda, K. Pulo, P. Teixeira Maia, D. Vukovic, L. Galea, N. Borg.

Żejtun C: G. Zammit, C. Giordemaina, I. Azzopardi, J. Antonio Meira (A. Andelkovic 68’), E. Vella (G. Azzopardi 11’), A. Carabott, J. Castano (R. Spiteri 85’), D. Albanese, B. Farrugia, N. Tabone, A. Farrugia.

Referee: Stefan Pace

Scorer: Johan Castano 45’ pen

Santa Lucia suffered the first defeat of the season as they were beaten by Zejtun in an ill-tempered match. Johan Castano’s penalty just before the end of the first half was the decisive goal for Zejtun, who now moved to fourth place in the standings, after a dismal first round.

The match was keenly contested but scoring chances were scarce. Brooke Farrugia was instrumental in obtaining the all important penalty when he anticipated the goalkeeper who floored the Zejtun midfielder. Brooke Farrugia however marred a great performance when he was sent off for dissent in stoppage time.

Santa Lucia are sorely missing the services of Brandon Paiber, who recently joined Floriana. His commanding midfield role he had in Marko Glumac’s set-up has not so far been adequately replaced.
