New independent political party for EP elections: ‘Brain, not ego’

Sunday, 3 February 2019, 19:17 Last update: about 6 years ago

A new independent candidate, Antoine P Borg, today announced his candidature for the European Parliament elections due in May 2019.

In a statement, Borg said he is due to create a new political party of his own by the name of 'Brain, not ego'.

Borg is a relative outsider on the political scene. Even so, he has published articles on politics and current affairs on a website of the same name since 2018.

Borg stated: "The decision to run for office is not an easy one. Along with many of my fellow citizens I am tired of the petty partisan politics we see in Malta. I'm tired of sitting on the sidelines. I choose to step up to give citizens a better choice in the election booth this year."

Borg spent the past eight years working on Europe's flagship space programme, Galileo. "I've worked with the Europe's space programmes in various roles. From strategy to my recent role in security, I've seen up front how European projects benefit us. No single country could have built Galileo, as a European sat-nav system, on their own. It's only when we pool resources that we can meet European needs and solve European problems. There is no place for partisan politics in all this," he added.

"We need MEPs who can represent the people. I have direct experience of working with the Parliament, the Commission and EU countries," he said. "I've worked in the public and private sector in four different European countries which gives me a unique insight into how things work at all levels. I have Malta close to my heart and feel there are many lost opportunities especially in research and development. This is a shame. My election campaign will show how I will represent all citizens, and how I can help each and every one of us."

Before living in Prague working on Galileo, Mr Borg worked in the private and public sector in Malta and abroad in Belgium and the United Kingdom. He has worked in a variety of technical roles after graduating with a B.Sc (Business & Computing) in 1998 from the University of Malta
