The proposed plans for the Spinola square have been revealed by the St Julian’s local council.

St Julian’s Mayor Guido Dalli, speaking with The Malta Independent, said that the council held a meeting with the public on Wednesday, and presented their plans for the Spinola Square project. The project would utilise funds received from planning gains paid by a number of developers for developments in the locality.

The architect is currently going through the public feedback and another public hearing will then be held, Dalli said. “If there would be agreement from the public at that stage, as I do not want to do anything that goes against their will, we will submit the necessary applications with the Planning Authority.”

The project will see the elimination of the roundabout in front of the police station, with part of the area turned into a pedestrian zone. The statue of Jesus Christ, which is now at the centre of the roundabout, will remain in the square, as will the statue of St Julian that is currently on the side, in front of Saddles outlet.

Cars coming down from the Regional Road will have a straight access to St George's Road on the left and Gorg Borg Olivier Road on the right. The parking area in front of the Tigullio will also be better organised.
