More than 15 million contraband cigarettes were seized by the Customs Department at Malta Freeport, the department said in a statement.

The cigarettes were in two containers which originated in Vietnam and were to be transported to Croatia.

The items in the containers were declared as being bamboo furniture, but scans showed that they were carrying other material, which turned out to be contraband cigarettes.
