The db Group said today it is not expecting any “major changes to the original overall approach to the development” planned on the former ITS site in St George’s Bay.

In a statement published on the Stock Exchange, the group said the company and its consultants are currently studying the decision taken by the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal on Thursday.

The tribunal, while coming out in favour of the permit, has ordered some changes, including an increase of 265.5 sqm of public open space, a reduction of 10m in the tower height and a reduction of 8m in the height of the other main building. The project is now also tied to a confirmation by Transport Malta that the current road network is adequate to cater for the generation of traffic by the development.

In its statement today, SD Finance plc announced that in relation to an original application submitted by db San Gorg property Ltd, which forms part of the db group of companies, the tribunal decision confirms the project in principle.

The tribunal however requests the applicant to carry out changes to its plans “primarily related to a reduction in the height of the tower and the hotel block by approximately 10m and 8m respectively”.

The tribunal, the statement said, is also requesting certification from Transport Malta confirming that the existing road network is adequate to cater for the generation of traffic by the development once each phase is completed and an application for a compliance certificate is made by the applicant.
