Eleanor sets a new National Record in 10m Air Pistol

During the weekend, the Malta Air Rifle and Pistol Shooting Club organised its twelfth competition of the National League 2018-19 in both Air Pistol and Air Rifle disciplines, at the Larry Vella Hall indoor range in Bidnija.  In both events the shooters had to shoot 6 sets of 10 shots for a total of 60 shots each in 1hr 15minutes.

Air Pistol

Eleanor Bezzina who few days ago had been honoured with the title of Sports Women of the Year 2018, has set a new national record in the 10m Air Pistol event.  During Saturday's competition Bezzina started with a perfect 100/100 score followed by sets of 96, 97, 99, 97, 93, with a total score of 582 from 600 points.  She has beaten her own personal best and national record by 2 points. During the qualification round she was followed by Antoine Attard with 532 points, and Raymond Cacciattolo with 529 points.

During the final round the shooters had to shoot a maximum of 24 shots, a shooter is eliminated after 2 shoots respectively.  Eleanor kept her momentum and took the lead and won the competition.  There was tight marking between the next 3 shooters and with an elimination of just 0.5 points between them Antoine Attard placed in second place and Josephine Galea Calleja managed to overcome Raymond Cacciattolo and placed in third place.

 

Air Rifle

The winner of the 10m Air Rifle event was William Vella with a total of 585.9 from 654 points followed in second place by Michael Xuereb with 555.7 points.

The next competition is scheduled for Sunday 24 March at 10.30am.
