Professor Guido Alpa confirmed as key speaker at 2019 Annual Consumer Law Conference

The Malta Chamber of Advocates, through its Malta Law Academy and in collaboration with the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Malta will again this year be marking World Consumers Rights Day with its Annual Consumer Law Conference.

This year's conference, on Friday 5th April, has secured the distinguished participation of Professor Guido Alpa as key speaker. Since 1978, Professor Alpa has been Italy's foremost expert and writer on consumer rights and the development of consumer law and has authored over 50 leading books on consumer law and civil law subjects. 

The conference will be addressed by Dr Omar Grech, Dr Theresienne Mifsud, Dr Annalies Muscat, Dr Mariosa Cardona and Dr Mireille Caruana and chaired by Dr David Fabri, Head of the Department of Commercial Law at the University of Malta who will also deliver the opening address.

Speaking about the event, Dr David Fabri, said "after so many years that we have been hosting our annual consumer law conference, we are honoured that this year we shall be having Professor Guido Alpa as key speaker. His active participation confirms the high repute enjoyed by this annual Consumer Law conference."

Prof Guido Alpa has taught Civil Law, Comparative Private Law and Comparative Legal Systems at Genoa University and was until recently Full Professor at the Faculty of Law at La Sapienza University in Rome and director of the Master's course in European Private Law since 2004.

Having held the role of Chairman of the National Bar Association of Italy for many years since 1995, Professor Alpa is also a Visiting Professor at a number of Universities including Oregon University and Berkeley in California, the University of London and the University of Oxford and has also taught at the Malta University Summer School and the Summer Schools of London's Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and King's College.

The Annual Consumer Law Conference will be held at the Chamber of Advocates Conference Hall  at the Courts of Justice in Valletta on the 5th of April 2019 between 1.00pm and 5.30 pm. Registrations are open at €30, and €20 for students. To register call on 21248601, 77208601 or e-mail [email protected]
