Footage of a large, wild cat pacing from one end to the other of a roof, has sparked a harsh debate on the social media.
The black feline, allegedly filmed on a roof in Fgura, is seen pacing in an enclosure.
The original video is available on the Animal Liberation Malta Facebook page.
The police have been informed about the footage, but information about the whereabouts is scarce.
Bobcats, caracals, cheetahs, jaguars, leopards, lions, lynxes, ocelots, pumas and tigers are included in the dangerous animals’ list compiled in a law established in 2016.
Comments on the social media range from people who express awe and fear to others who are complaining that such animals should never be kept in captivity in confined spaces.
A spokesperson for the Environement Ministry has since confirmed that the animal is registered with the authorities and and meets the requirements laid down by regulations.
