Swieqi grabbed another three points to keep moving up the table when they easily beat Qrendi 4-1 in a one sided affair. For Swieqi striker Salis Ibrahim was in top form obtaining a hat trick and practically destroying the Qrendi defence by himself.

Swieqi wrapped up the match in the first half with a three-goal lead and added the fourth just on the resumption. For Qrendi this was another setback even though they still enjoy a one-point lead over San Gwann, who however have a game in hand.

Qrendi only came to life in the last part of the game, creating some scoring opportunities and eventually scoring a consolation goal through Luca Brincat who was very effective when he came in.

Zejtun C-Vittoriosa S       0-0

Żejtun C: D. Zarb, D. Andelkovic, A. Carabott, G. Sultana, D. Albanese, R. de Fex Junior, R. Spiteri, N. Tabone, K. Buttigieg, A. Farrugia, G. Azzopardi.

Vittoriosa S: J. Pisani, I. Curmi, K. Degiorgio, P. Miguel Barkley (L. Gauci 83'), J. Ogonuppe, A. Cilia Mumford, J. Briffa, A. Galea, N. Ojuola, J.C. Galea, D. Tabone.

Referee: Andrea Sciriha

Zejtun and Vittoriosa settled for a draw yesterday, a scoreless draw in a rather boring match that left both teams happy with the point earned.

Both moved a little bit more to the safety zone, especially after Qrendi's heavy defeat at the hands of Swieqi.

Both had nothing or little to offer to the few spectators present, with play mainly in midfield and with both goalkeepers having a relatively easy evening. Zejtun were slightly the better team and had a couple of attempts especially in the first half, but Vittoriosa had a golden opportunity on 37 minutes when Ojuola headed incredibly wide when well placed.

Lija A-Marsa          4-1

Lija A: R. Marmara, C. Cassar, D. Scerri, E. Beu, A. Azzopardi (R. Sammut 79'), A. Borg (N. Camilleri 86'), A. Bello Osagie (D. Mintoff 71'), M. Clinch, I. Borg, K. Kuroki, C. Gauci.

Marsa: L. Seisun, S. Zampa, L. Camilleri, J. Bonello, R. Gafa, J. Theuma, R. Gatt De Raffaele, S. Briffa, O. Cristiani, H. Kawamura (N. Kojima 88'), A. Watanabe (M. Marra 82').

Referee: Ishmael Barbara

Scorers: Andrea Azzopardi 26' (L), Erjon Beu 51', 68' (L), Hideyuki Kawamura 80' (M), Koken Kuroki 92' (L)

The expected defeat at the hands of Lija yesterday condemned Marsa to Division Two next season. The event has bee a long way coming, with Marsa yesterday suffering their 19th defeat from 22 matches.

Marsa had too many problems this season, both on and off the field and their demotion was almost inevitable. Marsa gave a good account of themselves in the opening matches, but then went in a free fall with some embarrassing results culminated in the 2-10 defeat at the hands of Sirens.

On now hopes that Marsa solve their problems and try to make a quick return, at least to First Division football next season. Yesterday's match was a mirror image of Marsa's season. A good twenty minutes, but then Lija were by far superior and their victory could have been much bigger.
