Saturday, 6 April 2019, 14:04 Last update: about 6 years ago

Partit Demokratiku said today it is for a local council vision where the pillars are community building, social responsibility and environmental stewardship - all with the aim of putting quality of life first.

Six candidates, Timothy Alden for Sliema, Ray Azzopardi for San Giljan, Mark Zerafa for Birkirkara, Karen Vella Freeman for St Paul's Bay, Charles Polidano for Qrendi and Manuel Farrugia for Tarxien have announced their candidacy on behalf of Partit Demokratiku.

Deputy Leader Timothy Alden has declared that each and every locality has a unique cultural and social identity which should be protected and used as the basis of the community's success. Local government must manage the well-being of the community by fostering a sense of ownership and civic sense, through active citizenship.

"When local councils came into being, there was at first a push against partisanship. However, now often it can be hard to get things done due to tribalism. PD is to be the bridge between the other parties, composed of people from all backgrounds and walks of life. We want to put our loyalty to the locality and our country first, before partisan interests. We are a party where everyone can set aside differences and bring people together, to build a stronger community for everyone through people-centred leadership," states deputy leader Timothy Alden.

Partit Demokratiku said it stands for the promotion of loyalty to the community and the nurturing of the common good above tribal bi-partisanship.
