Archbishop Charles Scicluna has presented a small donation, on behalf of the Church in Malta, to the fund set up by French President Emanuel Macron for the rebuilding of the Notre Dame Cathedral.

The iconic Paris landmark was ravaged by fire on Monday afternoon.

Archbishop Scicluna presented the donation to French Ambassador Brigette Curmi during a meeting at her Zebbug residence.

He told Newsbook that he expressed his solidarity on behalf of the Maltese Catholic community.

“We are all shocked by what happened at Notre Dame,” Scicluna said, describing the cathedral as an important part of the European Christian Culture and world heritage.

“As we rebuild God’s house we will build together a community of friendship and solidarity. The Cathedral was lost by fire but we can rediscover this beauty through love and solidarity and a renewed community,” the Archbishop said.
