Rock’N Malta presents James live in concert

Wednesday, 24 April 2019, 12:37 Last update: about 6 years ago

Rock'N Malta are proud to present triple platinum Mancunian band James on the 12th of June at Aria Complex.

Since their formation in 1982, James have made The Smith's Morrissey and Johnny Marr into early fans with their first debut 'Jimone' EP and since become one of British indie rock's most celebrated and enduring bands with a string of anthemic hits, including 'Come Home', 'Sit Down', 'She's a Star' and 'Laid'.

James, made up of Tim Booth (Vocals), Adrian Oxaal (Lead Guitarist), Jim Glennie (Bass guitar), Saul Davies (Violin, guitar and percussion), Mark Hunter (Keyboards), Dave Baynton-Power (Drums) and Andy Diagram (Trumpet) have achieved timeless longevity attributed to their constant process of renewal and reinvention.

Among numerous accolades, their most recent album, 2016's 'Girl at the End of the World' debuted at number two in the UK album charts. In total, they have sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, including their 1998 'Best Of' which was a UK number one and went triple platinum. James' reputation as a uniquely transcendent live act is well-earned, having headlined festivals from Glastonbury in 1992 to Festival No.6  in 2015.

Rock’N Malta’s 12th June gig at Aria Complex will bring thundering, body shakingly loud tribal drum beats, earlier hits and songs from their 15th studio album, aptly titled 'Living In Extraordinary Times' proving James to be as vital, visceral and urgent as ever. They will be supported by a local band.

Lou Bondi, Artisitic Director, Rock'N Malta comments: "This year's Rock'N Malta lineup is the most diversified to date. It is therefore our absolute pleasure to host James as the standard bearers of the 'alternative' genre of rock. Many bands have labelled themselves as such yet most end up falling into two categories. There are those who remain alternative and slowly descend into obscurity and those who sell out and become mainstream. In this context, James are a rare breed indeed. They have not only maintained their alternative integrity despite the rollercoastering of the rock and pop scene but they have achieved commercial success without pandering to mass taste. This should be a master class gig  for all alternative music fans."
