There can be a government which is not led by corruption, Nationalist Party Leader Adrian Delia said today.

Delia was addressing a political conference at St. Paul's Bay where he spoke of certain accusations that were made by the Labour Party - that the Nationalists do not want to hold elections in certain localities. "The Labour Party accuses us of not wanting local council elections, when it was Joseph Muscat who said that local councils were never a favourite of his."

Delia said that the government bases everything on the importation of foreigners and spoke of the negative impact that is having on the island. "Pensions? Foreigners. Tunnel? Foreigners. Economy? Foreigners! The government has no plan, they are not bringing in foreigners who wish to integrate in society, to provide a service to society, or to teach, but they are thrown into indecent conditions which is only making our society worse and driving them deeper into poverty."

"Justice Minister Owen Bonnici said that they are happy with the results of the Venice Commission, and they promised that they would implement changes; but then the Prime Minister hand picks six members of the judiciary himself." He said that the Council of Europe's Venice Commission recommended the introduction of a different method of appointing judges, but that the government goes against everything that the Commission and Judge Giovanni Bonnello recommended. "They do not care about your safety or about the people of this country; they only care about their interests."

Delia stressed that the Party will not stop fighting for the injustices caused by this government. He said that the case against Vitals Global Hospital was crucial as the government took away funds and land of the Maltese people. "The main person who was involved in all this, Konrad Mizzi, is being strengthened and given more power, instead of being stopped."

He stressed that the Nationalist Party will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure that such corruption does not continue. He said that there are people out there ready to fight for democracy, for the good of the people.

Turning to Mt Carmel, he said that it is in a medieval age state, where not even animals would live. "But the government is not ashamed." 

He said that the Nationalist Party's campaign will focus on education, infrastructure, pensioners, youths and the future. He said that they will include everything, except for hatred. "That is the main difference between the PN and the PL; they do everything in their power to get what they want and hurt people, but we will work hard for our country."

PN MEP Roberta Metsola also spoke. She said that the Prime Minister commented that the streets are full of dirt, "but I wish to tell him that whilst we can address the dirt in the streets, it is his duty to clean up the dirt and corruption in Castille."
