In 2018, 12,913 gun licences for hunting were renewed, while 165 new gun licences for hunting were issued, Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia said in Parliament

He was responding to a Parliamentary Question posed by PN MP Edwin Vassallo, who asked for the amounts of hunting and trapping licences issued in 2017 and 2018. The minister said that in 2017, there were 12,925 of such renewed licences and 224 such new licences.

Hunting licences include hunting for birds from land and at sea, and rabbit hunting, he said, while adding that one person could have more than one licence. As for trapping licences, he said that this sector does not fall under his remit.
