Msida's promenade is going to be on the receiving end of a €2 million makeover, Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi announced on Friday.

Mizzi announced that the promenade will be rebuilt with a new design which makes it wider and includes a number of new amenities such as bicycle lanes, new benches, new street lighting, and a new slipway. Through this project, cabling which is presently passed above ground will be re-passed underground.

The project is also going to include the implementation of a CCTV system to ensure the security of the place, while a Wi-Fi service is also going to be built in.  Around 30 metres of paving will also be laid as part of this project.

Mizzi explained that this project forms part of the government's vision to improve the country's touristic product through better infrastructure, while also generating more open and recreational spaces in a number of localities.  He said that the project is being done in full conjunction with the two surrounding local councils - those of Msida and Ta' Xbiex - and that they will be saving €2 million which can be instead spent on other initiatives in the community.

Mizzi thanked the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation for the manner in which they are leading the project.
