‘A vote for Labour is a vote for abortion’, Delia says

"Every seat given to Labour is a seat in favour of abortion, every vote given to Labour is a vote in favour of abortion", Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said in a political activity on Sunday.

Delia dedicated a large portion of his speech on Sunday - which was Mother's Day - at a political activity in Mellieha to the subject of abortion, saying that the government had something to hide and that Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and the Labour party are supporting a European group - the Party of European Socialists - who have guaranteed that if elected will implement abortion in all countries.

He started off his speech with a dedication to mothers of all kinds.  He thanked mothers who live in solitude, mothers who dedicate their time to politics, mothers who have to work one or two extra jobs, mothers who have to take decisions which society can look down upon to help their children, and mothers who have committed an abortion.

"Thank you to those mothers who were going to give birth but did not; who committed an abortion because they felt desperate - they do not deserve condemning, but they deserve all the psychological and moral support that they can get", Delia said.

The Opposition leader said that this - Mother's Day - is the day, if any, to speak about the protection of life.  He noted that he had read on a newspaper some who are questioning whether the fight against abortion is being dreamt up by him or that it is being brought up by the PN because they have nothing left to talk about, but said that this is not the case.

He said that the government was trying to undermine the issue, noting two examples of this.  He said that the government had first removed the legal definition of the mother and father, and then removed the protection of the unborn child from a legislative act that offered more protection to women against violence.  He noted that in the latter case, this protection was enshrined in the law already, but it was removed when there was no need to remove it.

Delia criticised those who said they were pro-choice instead of saying they were pro-abortion noting that these people are saying they are in favour of the choice to end the life of someone else.

He said that the government had declared that an embryo is nothing more than eight cells and hence did not recognise the right of the unborn.  "The PN recognises that this baby is a life and we recognise that they have a life and a right that requires the proper protection - that is the difference between the PN and the government" he said.

Turning to the European dimension, Delia quoted extracts from the manifesto for the Party of European Socialists under the lead of Franz Timmermans who, Delia said, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has promised his full support to.

The Opposition Leader quoted the manifesto: "We want a binding gender EU strategy through which we will continue to lead the fight to end the pay and pension's gaps, combat sexual harassment and gender based violence and ensure that every individual has full access to their sexual and reproductive rights" and added that this latter point meant that every women gets to decide whether to end the life of somebody else or not.

"This is not a promise - it is a guarantee that they will try and let this into Europe if they are elected - every seat given to Labour is a seat in favour of abortion, every vote given to Labour is a vote in favour of abortion", he said.

He said that Labour do not want to say as much as they have something to hide.

Turning to environmental issues, Delia praised young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and spoke of the need for drastic action against climate change.  He said that climate change was only going to make the immigration problem worsen.

He spoke of the trouble that pollution was causing, saying that 10 people are dying prematurely because of it every week.

Delia also took a shot at the Prime Minister, saying that he will be the only Prime Minister in the history of the country who did not build a single unit of social housing and put a roof over the head of anyone in need.

He encouraged people not to lose heart and said that the attack of the government on the PN's MEPs Roberta Metsola, David Casa, and Francis Zammit Dimech to try make it seem like they are damaging the country are being done to cover up the socialist party's desire to implement a Europe-wide tax and abortion, and to cover up expert reports which say that "this is the most corrupt government in the history of our country".

"Do not lose heart - Be convinced. I am convinced," he concluded to the applause of his supporters.
