An online campaign has started in the form of a petition calling upon the authorities to change the name of the fourth Gozo Channel vessel to “Dnegel”.

On Friday, the government announced that Gozo Channel will be leasing a fourth vessel to transport passengers and cars between Malta and Gozo.

The vessel was leased from the Cypriot company, and is named Nikolaus.

An online petition is now calling for a change of name – to Dnegel, a word that has come to form part of common jargon earlier this year after another social media uproar on names given to babies.

Dnegel is Legend written back to front.

The petition organisers say Dnegel is more suitable because it is easier to pronounce, less cringy and more awesome.
