Three police officers had to be given medical assistance after they saved a woman from a burning house in Siggiewi.

TVM reported that the case took place at around 5pm in Triq il-Muza.

The police were alerted to the fire after neighbours saw smoke coming out of the residence. Members of the Rapid Intervention Unit and district police were first on site.

When no one answered the door, the officers tried to break it open but were unsuccessful. They subsequently entered the property from the roof. TVM said the officers managed to break open a window and entered the smoke-filled property, eventually finding the woman.

Members of the Civil Protection Department had by then arrived on site and put out the blaze.

The woman was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.

The police officers were given medical assistance by emergency doctors and paramedics.
