Watch: Resident of Pieta building that collapsed had warned of tragedy a month ago

Thursday, 13 June 2019, 11:32 Last update: about 6 years ago

One of the residents of a building which collapsed this morning had warned that a tragedy was bound to happen unless measures were taken.

In a video uploaded on Facebook one month ago the resident, Janet Walker, had told one of the builders that work had continued in spite of warnings that the building was shaken.

Speaking to the media this morning, Walker said that she had warned the authorities that something bad was bound to happen if the work continued. Some people had told her that she was exaggerating.

She said that she heard a very loud noise and when she went to the kitchen she saw a gaping hole. She and her mother immediately left the building, fearing that all would collapse. She said that she has nowhere to sleep tonight as it is their only home.

Her daughter will have her First Holy Communion on Sunday and her dress is in the building.
