UEFA Champions League: Valletta to face Dudelange; Hibernians drawn against Shakhtyor Soligorsk

Local champions Valletta will face Luxembourg’s F91 Dudelange in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions. Valletta will travel to Luxembourg for the first leg scheduled for the 8th or 9th July, with the return leg in Malta seven days later.

The draws for the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League were held yesterday afternoon in Nyon. It will be a hard nut to crack for the local champions, as Dudelange last season made history by qualifying to the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.

In the UEFA Europa League draws, local representatives Balzan, Hibernians, and Gzira United will travel to eastern Europe. FA Trophy winners Balzan were draw against NK Domzale of Slovenia, Hibernians will face Shakhtyor Soligorsk of Belarus, and Gzira United were drawn against Croatia’s Hajduk Split.

The first legs of the Europa League matches will be played on 11 July, with the return legs seven days later on 18th July.
