Pedestrians urge government to complete Regional Road tunnel

Tuesday, 18 June 2019, 09:58 Last update: about 6 years ago

Pedestrians are urging the government to complete a tunnel beneath the Regional Road to allow for safer access to pedestrians wanting to cross the busy stretch.

A tunnel started to be built to connect the Kappara area close to the location of the Egyptian embassy and the area close to the Zammit Clapp Hospital.

But pedestrians who regularly need to cross from one side to the other say that the tunnel was never completed.

There is huge risk of a nasty accident each time a pedestrian crosses that part, also because of the curve in the road. Cars are being driven down or up at speed because it is a major artery, the pedestrians say. Risks are even higher when it gets dark or before sunrise.

The pedestrians are urging the government to complete the project before someone gets hurt or worse.
