LESA officials fined 49 people for littering over the past three days, the agency said in a statement.

The contraventions vary from tipping of bulky refuse to the improper disposal of domestic waste, taking out black bags on the wrong days and others related to construction work.

All cases will go before the tribunal or the courts, the agency said.

The agency said it was issuing its statement after numerous reports it has received.

LESA, which is responsible for enforcement on littering, said it is taking every step to stop these offences.

It said most reports received were from the Buġibba, Qawra and St Paul’s Bay area.

In fact, these areas were being monitored 24 hours a day. Between Monday and Thursday, LESA officials issued 35 fines in these areas.

Another 14 contraventions were issued in Sliema, St Julian’s and San Gwann.

The agency said it appreciates any form of help from the public. People can contact the agency on 22474400 or [email protected], or on www.lesa.gov.mt
