The Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation has received a donation of €50,000 from the Central Bank of Malta. The donation represents the profit made from the sale of coin cards of the €2 commemorative coins with the theme ‘Cultural Heritage’.

President George Vella was presented with the donation by Central Bank of Malta Governor Mario Vella during a courtesy call yesterday at The Palace, Valletta, in what Governor Mario Vella said is a sign of the Central Bank of Malta’s social responsibility.

On his part, the President said that he feels “very grateful for the donation of €50,000 granted by the Central Bank of Malta to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation (MCCFF), which requires a great deal of funds to meet the numerous demands that it receives daily for help from several people”.

The €2 commemorative coin, the profit from which was donated to MCCFF, is the third in a series of five being issued by the Central Bank and designed by secondary school students. The design competition was open to all secondary students, with the winner selected by an expert panel. The next two coins in the series for 2019 and 2020 will be based on the themes ‘Nature and Environment’ and ‘Games’ respectively.
