A driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in Luqa on Sunday evening was arrested minutes later in Msida, the police said.

The accident took place at 9.10pm in Misrah iz-Zghazagh, near the bocci club.

The driver of the car kept on going after hitting the man, aged 27 of Santa Venera, who was later taken to hospital with serious injuries.

But the police were given the car number plates - a VW Golf - and a search was mounted immediately.

The driver of the car was caught 30 minutes later in Msida by police from the Rapid Intervention Unit.

The driver, a 25-year-old man of Msida was arrested along with a 19-year-old woman who was riding as a passeneger.
