Floriana continued with their flying start when in the first match of the eight day played at the Centenary Stadium they easily disposed of Senglea Athletic. The Greens took a double lead inside the first seven minutes and this was a welcome tonic for them to control the match with great ease.

Floriana went into this match following a resounding win over Sirens when they beat the St. Paul's Bay outfit by a 4-1 scoreline. Their opponents Senglea were also on a high following a good win over strugglers Sliema Wanderers.

This match saw Floriana coach Vincenzo Potenza together with Diego Venancio, Matias Garcia and Augusto Caceres taking it against their former club.   Floriana were in search of another win to continue holding onto first spot and trying to extend their lead over second placed Hamrun Spartans who over the weekend have a tricky encounter against Birkirkara.

Floriana have managed a great start to this campaign and are dreaming of silverware this season. On the other hand Senglea have passed through good moments and also some difficult times and are presently holding to a mid-table position. This defeat was a confirmation of an inconsistent season so far.

Floriana hit the opener after only three minutes when Matias Garcia released Brandon Paiber with the latter from the right flank finding Kristijan Keqi with the Albanian striker beating Anthony Curmi with a low shot.

Senglea looked dejected and it was no surprise when in the 7th minute Floriana doubled their lead. Diego Venancio sent a cross towards Matias Garcia who headed past the Senglea goalkeeper. Floriana were now in total command and on 15 minutes they nearly added another goal when Keqi found Ulises Arias but his header from well inside the area missed the target.

Ten minutes from the break a Garcia inswinger was saved by Curmi.

On resumption Fonseca missed an easy chance when he met Cini's cross but headed wide off the mark. But Floriana's third goal was not to be denied as after Marcelo Dias was adjudged to have handled in the area from the resultant penalty Keqi converted in style.

Things got from bad to worse for Senglea when in the 54th minute they had Sakyi sent off for a second bookable offence.

Floriana were now in cruise control and in the 58th minute they added a fourth when Fonseca powered a shot past a helpless Curmi.

Senglea could have scored a consolation goal in the 66th minute when a Sean Cipriott shot nearly caught Akpan napping but the Floriana goalkeeper tipped over the bar.

With Floriana sealing the issue sixteen minutes from time when substiture Augusto Caseres sent a low cross and found Fonseca whose shot was partially blocked by Curmi but Terence Vella was near to tap the ball into the net.
