A 29-year-old man from san Gwann was found dead in the sea near Mtahleb, the police confirmed with the Malta Independent, saying that the man fell off the cliffs at around 8.30am in the area known as Ghar id-Dwieb.
He has been named as Darren Borg, 29, of San Gwann.
The police had received a call for assistance, saying that a man who was fishing had fallen from the cliffs at around 8.30am.
An Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat was sent on site.
The operation in search of the body included both police officers and members of the AFM.
The body was later air-lifted out of the water via helicopter and was certified dead.
A magisterial inquiry is being led by Magistrate Rachel Montebello..
