Updated (2): One passenger who fell ill on flight has history of respiratory problems

Medical staff were sent to check on two passengers who fell ill during a flight from Edinburgh to Malta, this newsroom is informed.

One of the passengers has now been discharged from hospital, while the other has a history of respiratory problems, and is going to be kept for an array of tests, possibly even for COVID-19.

The aircraft landed at Malta International Airport this afternoon.

Government officials said that due to the situation regarding Coronavirus, all passengers were asked to fill in a passenger locator form, so the information would be available in case of necessity. The passengers were disembarked after 30 minutes, which was the time taken for the ambulance to arrive and for the passengers to fill out the forms.

Malta International Airport later issued a statement, and confirmed that a medical occurrence was reported on board arriving flight FR 6695.

"The established precautionary measures were taken by the local health authorities so as to ensure everyone’s safety."
