New community clinic to open in Marsaxlokk

Wednesday, 22 April 2020, 15:51 Last update: about 5 years ago

Residents from Marsaxlokk and other localities in the vicinity will soon be receiving various primary care community services from a new community clinic in the locality, which is currently being restructured and refurbished.

The Health Ministry said the community clinic is being built on land owned by the University of Malta, which was granted to Primary HealthCare following an agreement entered last March.

When visiting the ongoing works, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne expressed satisfaction that after almost three years of looking for an ideal site from where it would be possible to deliver primary care community services to Marsaxlokk residents, a prime site was found. He affirmed that once this clinic starts receiving clients, by the end of 2020, residents will be benefitting from many more services in an aesthetically pleasing environment.

The Chief Executive Officer of Primary HealthCare, Roseanne Camilleri, explained that the Marsaxlokk Community Clinic will be following the Primary HealthCare's new outreach concept to move its services closer to the community, by offering a vast selection of services which include:

  1. General Practitioner
  2. Nurse
  3. Podiatry
  4. Physiotherapy
  5. Speech and Language Therapy
  6. Mental Well Being
  7. Nutritionist
  8. Phlebotomy

This refurbishment and equipment will fall under the Holistic Overhaul of the Primary HealthCare programme covered by the €10 million grant which was secured by the Primary HealthCare in 2019 from the National Development Social Fund (NDSF).
