Telehealth Dental Hygiene

Easy to follow oral home care guides for the elderly, children and the general public on Public Broadcasting Services to assist in maintaining oral health, general health and quality of life.

Telehealth Dental Hygiene is a new project being launched Monday 1 June 2020 by the Ministry for Health through the Director General - Mr. Clarence Pace, in collaboration with the Malta Association of Dental Hygienists and the Dental Hygiene Services, Mater Dei Hospital which project is aimed to encourage the general population including children and elderly citizen to engage in recommended oral health practices and behaviours which will ultimately contribute to their overall health and quality of life.

As from Monday, easy to follow oral home care guides in the form of short videos will be aired on TVM and TVM 2.  Over the years, dental health education has been an integral part of Dental Hygiene Services in Malta and has been delivered to individuals and communities using different modalities in a variety of settings. These short educational videos have been designed to disseminate correct dental health facts which will empower population groups with accurate information about oral health, enabling them to take action in adopting favourable oral health behaviours and practices which contribute to better quality of life.

Veronica Montebello - President of the Malta Association of Dental Hygienists is convinced that these short educational videos will promote good oral health practices increasing awareness of the benefits of prevention and encouraging changes in behaviours. This will contribute towards the population's overall health and better quality of life.

Dr Rita Micallef - Director Allied Health Care Services has acknowledged the value of the collaboration of a Voluntary Organization with the Ministry for Health through the Dental Hygiene Department and has thanked all the stakeholders that have intensely supported this initiative. She added that the expertise of all the stakeholders has given an added value to this information tool which will have a direct positive impact on the citizens of the Maltese Community. 

Easy to follow Oral Homecare guides for children will be aired Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11:00 on TVM

Easy to follow Oral Homecare guides for the elderly will be aired Tuesdays at 18:20 after the daily mass on TVM 2.

Easy to follow Oral Homecare guides for the general public will be aired Thursdays at 18:20 after the daily mass on TVM 2.

Relaxation sessions, as part of the Telehealth Occupational therapy will continue to be aired on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on TVM 2 at 18.20 hours after the daily mass.
