Two arrested in Luqa after 1.6kg drug find

The Anti-Drug Squad, with the help of the Rapid Intervention Unit, arrested two men in Hal Luqa on Wednesday afternoon after they found them with more than 1.6kg of drugs, with a street value of around €90,000.

The men in question are a 36-year-old, who lives in Luqa and a 31-year-old, who lives in Birżebbuġa.

 They were stopped by police while driving a vehicle which was suspected to be involved in drug trafficking.

While searching the car, the police found two blocks of a substance which is most likely cocaine, weighing at about 1.3kg

The police then found even more substances at a residence in Luqa; 130g of cocaine, 100g of cannabis plant and 95g of cannabis resin.

An inquiry has been opened by Magistrate Dr Natasha Galea Sciberras LL. D, who, in turn, appointed experts to assist her.

Both men were arrested, and investigations are ongoing.

One of the men is expected to be arraigned in court tomorrow and will be charged with aggravated trafficking and possession of the same drugs amongst others.
