Man arrested moments after robbing woman in Pieta’

A 24-year-old Gambian man was arrested “moments” after he robbed a woman in Pieta`, the police said.

The case took place at around 10pm on Thursday, in Triq Telgħet Gwardamanġa.

The victim, a 27-year-old Colombian woman, said a man had put a knife to her neck and demanded that she give him her money.

The suspect made off with her mobile phone, the police said.

Members of the Rapid Intervention Unit and the Major Crimes Unit mounted a search and, after around 20 minutes noted a man who was acting suspiciously in Triq l-Isptar. The man fit the description given to the police by the victim.

He was arrested and was found to be carrying the stolen phone. He is being held at the police lock-up in Floriana.

The case is being investigated.
