Publication on rising sea-levels supported by APS Bank

Wednesday, 3 March 2021, 12:33 Last update: about 4 years ago

APS Bank has proudly supported the "The Sinking Shore", the work of research on climate change and the impacts of sea-level rise by environmental scientist Dr Ivan X. Gatt. The book contains an extensive analysis of the social, economic and geographical impacts of a sea-level rise on a small island nation such as Malta.

Dr Gatt carried out the research as part of his post graduate studies and APS Bank readily supported the publishing of his findings as the topic lies at the heart of the sustainability discussion, a special area of interest for the Bank. With this project Dr Gatt hopes to show the vulnerability of the Maltese Islands and their economy from commercial impacts to industrial activity and tourism if low lying areas and sandy beaches are lost to rising sea levels.

Hervé Delpech, Chief Strategy Officer at APS Bank, commented that, "We found this project particularly intriguing and wanted to raise the awareness of the urgency required to tackle climate change, knowing the severity of the impact this could have locally."

If you would like to learn more about this research, check out the interview with Dr Ivan Gatt shown during the Malta Sustainability Forum available here.
