A man was seriously injured in a fire which developed in a private residence in Birkirkara early on Wednesday, the police said.

The fire developed in a house in Papa Piju XII at around midnight.

The 55-year-old man, who lives in Balzan, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Magistrate Nadine Lia is leading an inquiry.
